Metro Sunday Market is announcing its GRAND OPENING October 6, 2013.
Special events planned for that day include local entertainment and music, raffle drawings, education on the food we put into our body and sustainable education on the environment and being more efficient with the resources we have today and preparation for tomorrow, kids will also enjoy some of the crafts and games we have to share with them, and much much more to enjoy when The festivities begin at 2 pm.
Everyday communities are converging to celebrate a simple miracle: farmers, as stewards of rural America, coming together to share a harvest that’s feeding local families. The result? More viable regional economies and increased access to fresh, nutritious food as well as stronger social networks that help keep communities strong. Metro Sunday Market is proud to become a part of that long standing tradition.
Since 2000, across the country the number of farmers markets has grown 150%, from 2,863 markets to more than 8000 in 2013. These numbers continue to rise as farmers markets become fresh food mainstays for shoppers across all socio-economic, political, and ethnic ranges. Farmers markets bolster local economies, improve community health, and bring diverse groups of people together through a shared social space. ARIZONA is home to more than 80 farmers markets.
The Metro Sunday Market currently has local farmers, gardeners, artisans, and also include unique and interesting vendors selling a wide variety of products – far more than a traditional farmers market. Besides the fresh local produce you will also find artisan breads, locally made foods, local wines, collectible antiques and unique one-of-a-kind handcrafted items. You will also enjoy live music from the finest local artists and more.
Market manager, Cody Smith states: “Our community market can help stock your kitchen year round with healthy, accessible local food. We believe viable local farming operations are cornerstones of a more sustainable community. We are a family of vendors committed to serving our local community and building a more sustainable future. We have a comprehensive product policy, driven by our ideals and ethics. We strive to carry more of the finest, most ethical and most nutritious products. We’re passionate about community, food and fun!”
“community markets grow healthy farms, healthy people, and healthy communities” says Executive Director Bobby Clayborn. “During a slow economic recovery, farmers markets are stand-out successes in delivering triple bottom line benefits while making entrepreneurship work in communities large and small. Metro Sunday Market invites everyone to celebrate their local farmer and community markets and enjoy fresh local food from America’s most innovative farmers.”
Metro Sunday Market is located in the parking lot near the Southwest corner of the Metro Center Mall.
