Chandler, AZ – Yoyo’s will take center stage at the Chandler Community Center as participants compete for the title of state champion at the Arizona State Yoyo Contest. The event, which is free to spectators, takes place on Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
“We are excited to bring this event to Chandler for the first time and encourage yoyo artists, both beginners and advanced players, to take part,” said Stephanie Riley of event sponsor YoYoFactory.
Yoyo players have the option to compete in the novice or professional division. Within the pro division, choreographed routines are set to music as multiple styles are represented. Various forms include “off string” yoyo, where the yoyo is not attached to the string, and two yoyos being used at the same time. Not only will winners of the pro division claim the state champion prize, but will earn a seed to compete in the 2018 West Coast Regional Yoyo Contest to be held on June 30th, 2018 in Chicago, IL. In order to compete, yoyo players can sign-up online with a registration fee of $15.
As a special bonus, 2014 World Yoyo Champion Gentry Stein will be on hand contributing his talents as a judge. This event is open to the public and seats are available on a walk-in basis with a capacity up to 350. Spectators can make a day of it by not only watching incredible talent, but can join in the fun by learning how to yoyo. Community donated raffle prizes will also be given out.
